Rok Vengust

Rok Vengust was born on July 5th, 1967 in Kranj, Slovenia. After finishing primary school I attended secondary Technical school in Celje – naturalistic mathematic direction and finished it 1986.

I took an active part in sports at that time. I was placed among the top five tennis players in Slovenia. I gained a title of tennis instructor and skiing trainer. Nowadays besides tennis I also practice golf.

I registered as a student at Faculty of Medicine in Ljubljana in 1987 and completed the study of General Medicine on November 19th, 1993. During the fifth class of study I spent one month in Dublin, Ireland, in the frame of international student exchange.

In 1997 I completed two months education in Centro di Bioingegneria, Politechnico di Milano, Italy (head Prof. A. Pedotti). In 2000, 2003 and 2007 I had the opportunity to work with Prof. J. Harms in Karlsbad, Germany who is considered to be my teacher in spinal surgery. In May 2004 I successfully defended my PhD degree entitled »The meaning of different biomechanical parameters in development of dysplastic hip«. To date I published 32 papers cited in Medline. I am a member of Spine Experts Group, Slovenian Spine Society, European Spine Society and AOSpine. I work as a member of Advisory Board of European Spine Journal.

On 16th of June 2000, I was promoted as an Orthopaedic surgeon by the Ministry of Health, Slovenia. Since 2006 I work as a head of Dept. of Spinal Surgery, UMC, Ljubljana.

In April 2010 I was promoted as Assoc. Professor by University of Ljubljana, Slovenia and on June 2015 as Full Professor by University of Ljubljana, Slovenia.

From 2016 I work as a president of RSK for Orhopaedic surgery at Ministry of Health, R Slovenia.
